I started my website and podcast because I want to better support people who desire to turn their passion into a thriving business. From pet sitters who love the animals in their care through to handmade designers who create beautiful items which fill our homes, and every type of business in between — businesses built on a foundation of joy.
If you haven’t started your business or side hustle yet — and you want to — make this day the time you make a start, even if you begin with baby steps. Because if now isn’t the right time, then when will be?
If the pandemic has taught us anything it’s that the time we have available to us is precious, and that events in our life can take a turn in a heartbeat. Before Covid came along did you ever really think an event would happen in your lifetime that would have you confined to your house? Probably not. I know I didn’t, and through the first months of lockdown I felt like I was living through some very strange movie.
The bottom line is things happen, life comes along and turns things upside down. It might not be Covid, but it might be the loss of someone we love, the end of a relationship, or the termination of a job. Time is precious and it’s important not to put off anything you want to do.
Sometimes we can get caught up in the minutiae of the every day, and while that can be wonderful in many ways (there’s nothing wrong in celebrating the routines that enrich our lives) it’s important not to lose sight of what’s really important to you.
Changing our career or starting a new venture can seem daunting, but you don’t have to leap in with both feet first (unless that’s what suits you). Instead, start to do research; set up a blog or a website; actually commit to writing that book you have always wanted to start, just for an hour a day; begin to get active on social media and tell people more about the subject you love or the business you want to start or grow.
Remember when you were a child and you did things just for the fun of them, for play, for excitement, for joy? We all need to bring that into our lives so we can really make the most of every day. If we can also turn that into a business then so much the better, because we will be providing others with wonderful products and superb services.
And if you are thinking, but I’m too old to start, too young, too inexperienced, too set in my ways, not confident enough, too shy, or any other reason, then I want to say none of those things are true. If you truly want something enough, you will make a start and all those other concerns will gradually fall away.
Do things that matter to you.
Do those interminable meetings at work really matter? Does it really matter if you leave the dishes unwashed and spend an hour a day on what you love to do?
Make a start right now, today, and just see where it takes you.
