Kick Perfection to the Kerb
First off, if you are reading this in the US you may be asking what this strange kerb word is. I apologize, we have our own quirky spellings here in the UK and we will defend them to the end. In a country where apples and pears means stairs, and we were all talking about the Platty Joobs (i.e. Queen’s Platinum Jubilee) for weeks, I think I need say no more!
Yes kerb is curb, and my battle cry today is that we need to kick perfection to it.
Why?
Because it’s getting in the way of getting things done.
According to Psychology Today:
Around 25 to 30 percent of high achievers may suffer from imposter syndrome. And around 70 percent of adults may experience impostorism at least once in their lifetime, research suggests.
Is it any wonder we are walking around in a haze of doubt about ourselves when it comes to promoting our work or our business. We shy away from getting things finished because we are scared they aren’t going to be good enough. Plus, we know that when we have finished the blog, website, product, book, or whatever it is, we are actually going to have to put it out into the world and promote it.
Then procrastination comes and taps us on the shoulder and tells us it has the answers to all our problems. We just need to delay getting the work done and we can rest in this blissful state of saying we are going to be or do [fill in the blank] one day, but right now we don’t have to prove anything.
Procrastination lies to us though. In its quest to protect us, all it actually does is make us feel worse, because 90% perfect and out the door is better than any number of 100% perfect things that never go live.
An Example
This weekend I had the perfect example of this. I set myself the task of completing a mini-course. I was to create it, write the sales page and promote it on Monday. And do you know what, I actually achieved what I set out to do.
How?
Every time I heard that little whisper of this could be better, or maybe there’s another way to do this - I didn’t stop to listen, I just pushed ahead and did what I had on my plan.
And I felt a lot better for it. The course is live and even though this isn’t a big thing, it’s given me more confidence to just keep moving ahead.
Practice makes perfect
No-one starts out an expert. We have to keep doing what we do, and with every step we get better. Let’s not let procrastination stand in the way of our progress.
So if you are trying to get something 100% right. Let go of that. Finish it and get it out into the world. From there you can tweak and adjust, but if you never get it finished you never get that chance.
It’s That Time of Year Again
Each year, BC Stack assembles 65 full digital marketing "how-to" products and masterclasses into one Stack.
This is the only package I buy of this kind and it's the only one I promote. The reason is the quality of the products is great, and if you purchased them all separately it would cost thousands.
I also appreciate that BC Stack always keeps the cost the same each year at $49.
If you need additional training in certain areas, then check out what's on offer this year. You probably aren't going to get through all the courses, but if there are even one or two that would be valuable to you, it can make the price point worth it.
You can check it out here. (#affiliatelink)
